tim4948
Hi, I currently have 2 of these kits to build but I have a couple of questions concerning the liveries carried by the wagons before I go ahead and build them. The first question is as I have 2 I would quite like to do 1 in BR livery the other in GWR, did any survive into BR ownership? The second being can anyone help with the positioning of the letters and numbers on the wagons as I can't find a picture of one?
RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted September 5, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 5, 2016 There's a good photo in Jim Russell's book Great Western Wagons that shews the lettering nicely..Not sure about BR though. The morel A was a smaller capacity in being 20 instead of 25 tons. They both had rather chunky looking buffers. Paul Bartlett's site doesn't have any that I can find. John

Will almost certainly have the condemnation dates. Paul
brossard
When do people get off thinking I am ancient I'm struggling to see where my comment makes you old Paul. Your collection of pictures is pretty comprehensive and a great resource - it's certainly worth a look when researching rolling stock. brossard
I fear that continuing this line of thread is only going to dig the hole I've apparently dug deeper. Shall we get back to the Morell? John

John (no chicken myself) I was attempting to be amusing, the original post talked about whether any survived into BR days (without giving a diag number or running numbers to assist anyone trying to assist). I realise I have posted some earlier photos as "collection" but to have photographed a wagon in say 1950 I would have had to be born by 1935! Well I wasn't! On the information provided I did give guidance on where to find the information you are looking for. Paul
brossard
The link I posted does say that the wagon is Diagram E1 but not a lot more. However, for someone building a kit of the wagon in any scale the pictures should be useful. John (shovel put away)
tim4948
The diagram number is E2 for the falcon Brassworks kits, apart from that and not very clear instructions on how to build the kit I have no information on running numbers, history on the wagon or where to put the transfers on the wagon
PenrithBeacon
GW Goods Wagons Vol2 (Atkins etc) gives a photo of an E3 on page 23 and a number of 41999. This wagon had DC11 brakes and 8 spoke 'heavy' wheels. I get the impression that all MORELs were different to each other. GW MORELs seem to have been built in the 1890s or so and later modified. I think it is unlikely that any survived onto the BR period. http://www.abebooks.co.uk/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=11083248860&searchurl=tn%3Dgwr%2Bwagons%26sortby%3D17%26an%3Datkins HTH
RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted September 6, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 6, 2016 That fits with my photo evidence and the others were 41997/8 and 42000.
