Christmas Is Coming?

Pondering (haha) on the way a Hornby thread is going my thoughts turned to the commercialisation of Christmas due to a couple of recent examples.  Two weeks back we noticed that the local garden centre is busily getting its Christmas section stocked and set out - well it's a garden centre so no surprise there.  But the real shock was last week when Mrs Stationmaster bought some tree ornaments in the Christmas section of the shop in Truro cathedral - but thinking further about that they are hardly likely to be stocking up for Halloween so can get in now for Christmas.

But now a prediction for 2017 and a suggestion for those who like to spend their hard earned pennies on r-t-r - don't go too mad spending on Christmas as the Old Stationmaster's Almanac is predicting that 2017 will be a bumper year for r-t-r releases, some long awaited and some coming as surprises having crept up quietly on the outside, and no doubt some as yet unannounced.

Indeed - have just booked our Santa Special trip...

For some of Stationmaster's posts, we really need a "you tease" button for the hints on unannounced items! I'm expecting a few Hornby announcements at Warley with some items for delivery next June and September.

Yes, I got a nasty shock when I went to buy a packet of grass seed on Sunday, and discovered that the garden centre is in the throes of a giant Christmas makeover - grass seed was difficult to find, but I could have come away with any number of chocolate Father Christmases, or pink plastic reindeer.

It's really, really, really hard no to come over all Ebenezer.

Kevin

PS: I know that grass seed should be down in the first, not the last, week of September, but I've been busy. OK?

Three months today and we can all go back to work...

Edit: Except that the 27th will be a Bank Holiday as the 25th is Sunday

Andi

The 25th of December this year is a Monday on my calendar.

I agree Stationmaster - I also suspect that there will the inevitable delays to one or more models, meaning their release is in early 2017 rather than before christmas.

I didn't realise you could grow chocolate and plastic in Britain. Will it grow well in the wet climate in Wales? Or am I a bit old fashioned in my perception of what a garden is for, as mine is currently being overrun by rampant courgettes!

I shall not be drawn on who might or might not be smiling in 2017 - even within the limits of my knowledge, let alone what might lie beyond it ;)

I'm trying not to visualise a rampant courgette, especially not a welsh one.

And, a garden centre, as opposed to a garden, is for growing money. Our nearest one not only has a Christmas extravaganza, but a beach in summer, and regular visits from a very good Dutch circus, complete with Big Top etc,

Fortunately it's a big garden, so they haven't taken over entirely!

My local garden centre sells seeds, plants, trees and other gardening stuff, as well as being a pet shop. Maybe that's an advantage of living in a small town in rural Wales, where all that sort of nonsense wouldn't be tolerated!

Mince pies (best before 10 Nov !!) and other Christmas eatables in at Lidl last week.

Brian

Mince pies are fine at any time of year. It's just a good thing that they're not available all year round, or I wouldn't be able to get into the clothes I've had for years!

Same at my local Sainsburys...

For SM: you wouldn't happen to be able to tease a new 4mm/OO A1/A1X for me would you? ;)

RTR bonanza all round...

Try the Reading Gauge 0 Trade Show and watch The Stationmaster in a quandary as he tries to decide just which 7mm RTR Pannier tank is going to be his choice!

Does your extensive collection of WTT, sectional appendicitisese etc yield any clue as the GWR bell-code for an immense Christmas pudding? And, is there differentiation between puddings passing straight through, and those stopping in section?
