Highland Explorer railtour to Inverness. When?

Recommended Posts

I never cease to be amazed by the range and depth of knowledge of folks on this forum so I'm sure someone out there will be able to provide an answer to this question that's bugging me.  Sometime in the early 90s I went on a railtour from the Leeds area to Inverness. I boarded the train in Skipton and we went north up the S&C. The loco carried a headboard "Highland Explorer" (see attached photo). I'm blowed if I can remember when. I cannot find any reference on sixbellsjunction website - maybe I've not looked hard enough.  Does anybody know the details please.

Thanks

David

Am sure the 26 was at Inverness for a few years after withdrawal could this be a Scotrail working they bright back loco hauled for a summer or two in 1995/96 I think it was 47's with black coaches maybe some event at Inverness or en route led to the headboard

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your suggestion. I'm sure 26035 hadn't been withdrawn at the time - see attached photo. I don't think it would have been left languishing in that spot for years. Also I distinctly remember "Highland Explorer" as an excursion from the Leeds Area, just not when!

Regards

David

Well I seem to be getting a little closer to the answer. I've just searched through my collection of old tickets and found this:

I'm pretty sure this was the trip to which I am referring. Can't think of any other trip I made to Inverness, so April 12th 1993. (4 months after 26035 was withdrawn.)
