hayfield
I see Chelmsford & District MRC have an exhibition on this weekend (22-10) at St John Payne School, Patching Lane Chelmsford CM1 4BS 10 am till 4:30 pm http://chelmsford-and-district-mrc.webs.com/chelmsfordexhibition.htm I will pop in and have a look, been meaning to for the past few years, but things have always got in the way. Seem to have quite a lot of layouts and some trade support
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted October 18, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 18, 2016 Usually a good show. I will be going to the toy fair at Brentwood first then a quick scoot up the A12 for the show.
RMweb Premium Clive Mortimore Posted October 22, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 22, 2016 I went along, sorry but was not that impressed. I did like "Summer Springs on the New Cut", simple and relaxing to watch. I think if you look at my list of layouts I have built one or two depot layouts I might like them, but even I thought four diesel depots were too many (and too noisy). The chocolate sponge cake I had with my cuppa was the highlight of the show.
hayfield
Clive If you are like me and go to the likes of Railex, Expo, Scaleforum, Alley Palley etc you would at any local show be disappointing, especially the one day shows. The economics limit who they can invite, the owners of larger layouts also prefer 2 day shows etc, so the comparison must be with their piers It was a well run show, with plenty of layouts also catering for families with young children and a good representation from the trade. It was well supported by the local community, car parks full and the largest catering areas I have seen at a show. This was a good example about putting on a show for local modellers and families, not a finescale show A range of pleasant layouts and the one which stood out was the river bank one from the Norwich area, the narrow gauge layouts also interested me
bike2steam
Due to distance, and lack of time I haven't been for a few years, I always regarded it as one of the better one day shows, but there again I'm biased. Good to see the club I started, in the late 70's, with the instigation of the late and much missed, Geoff Selvage, is still going well.
hayfield
A super layout both built to a high standard and extremely well presented The public want to see trains running, they don't care (Most are unaware of scale/gauge combinations)if its 00 or EM or P4 Well built and run 009 layout And another 009 who even ran a loco with a Thomas face for the younger visitors A pleasant family friendly show with the most number of the future generation of railway modellers I have seen. OK a Si-Fi layout or one based on Wallace and Grommet are not for the purists, but the kids loved them. A big well done to Chelmsford MRC, not quite my cup of tea but a great advert for the hobby and I will go back and support them next year
