dibber25
I haven't seen a copy yet! Ben just gave me the list and I copied and posted it. I did see the proof pages, however, and Tetleys Mills looks great! I shall see if we can persuade Dave Shakespeare to bring a section of it to Model Rail Live as a static exhibit if it is dismantled by then. By the way - watch for our new Model Rail Live website which should be going live by the end of this week. CHRIS LEIGH
chrisf
My copy came this morning. The feature comparing point motors is extremely useful! Chris

RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted March 22, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 22, 2010 Just opened the bag - Tetleys Mills pics are outstanding, and very interesting views from Chris on tne subject of portability and the 'entertainment' value of exhibition layouts in 'Backscene' (why do I always read that page first?). Cracking issue all round judging by a quick look through the rest.

We've started demolishing the side of the house to gain access to the new site and I anticipate at least a couple more weeks full time work by myself and my hod carrying wife Julie. The water table is way too high to contemplate any footings excavations, one of the attached images shows me standing a foot deep in water in the footings for the new lounge wall but we still hope to be water tight by the end of the year and completion sometime during 2011. I will only dismantle the current layout when we are ready to market this house on the completion of the new one.
dibber25
Having been working on the restoration of Barnwell Station House since May last year, I can tell you it only gets worse! It looked like a bombed site until a couple of weeks ago, when I hired a digger. Now it looks like a building site - and that's NOT an improvement! I don't blame you for not breaking Tetley's Mills until you have to. It looks like my layout will have to go into store, as I can't build the extension until after I sell my present house. Maybe a Tetleys Mills diorama for Model Rail Live 2011? CHRIS LEIGH
westerner
Nice issue but just a tad disappointed to find the manual point operation was with point levers right next to the point. I was hoping for some form of wire in the tube form of point operation might be talked about but it was not even mentioned and come to think of it it that seems to be a bit odd considering how often it appears to be used. It might have been useful for new modellers to show that there is a remote way of operating points with using point motors.
dibber25
The manual point operation feature by Nigel Burkin described how he has done it on one of his layouts. It wasn't intendeds as an exhaustive feature on methods of point control. I covered wire in tube a while back in my features on Herculaneum Dock. CHRIS LEIGH Stay in touch Chris, I may be able to sort something out which may be of interest but as you know any house building project starts to become all encompasing, I'm determined to have days away from it but of course circumstances change. westerner
Whoops sorry Chris forgot that one, I'll try and find it. Although as the title of April MR is headed POINTS SPECIAL I thought "wire in tube" type operation might have been explained, particularly for newer readers as your article on Herculaneum Dock was a few years ago. However it is a good issue and I did like the latest article on Tetley. and the mounting of Seeps should I go down that road. I really must get my act together and get some shots of Wencombe off to the show and tell page.
pauln
Mine arrived yesterday and having had a browse through this looks to be one of the best ever issues in terms of the range of topics covered - not all of personal interest to me but plenty enough of worth. I'm never usually a fan boy for anything but well done Chris and the team.
Stanley Melrose
I, too, looked at the article on point motors and thought others might be interested in a Hoffman point motor look-alike sold by Conrad Electronics - see <http://www1.conrad-uk.com/scripts/wgate/zcop_uk/~flN0YXRlPTIzMjU4MjgxMTg=?direkt_aufriss_area=SHOP_AREA_37365&~template=PCAT_AREA_S_browse&p_page_to_display=&catalogs_sub_id=sub3&aktiv=3&navi=oben_2> As you will see, this is currently available for £4.19 - a little less than Finney & Smith's £13.75! I have bought some but make no particular recommendation, other than to "point" out the price differential. Stan

Stan I too am thinking about the hoffman motor system, I've already done the points for my cobra, but for my other two layouts the whole idea just works for me.
