Hi All,

Have been asked to respray a class 37 into Europhoenix / Rail Operations Group Livery.

Has anyone done one or does anyone have an ideas as to what shades of paint are used on the real thing ???

I see Steve @ Railtec does the transfers, so just need a bit or help with the paint colours.

Also been asked to do a Harry Needle Class 37 - again, anyone know what colours are available for this ??

I prefer if possible to use either Phoenix Precision Paints or Railmatch ....

Cheers in advance

Ben

Hi Ben

I repainted a ViTrain 37 into 37884

Quite a few photo's of the conversion starting here.

The following is from the original spec sheet as used to paint the real 37884:

- The main body colour is Railfreight Grey.

- The roof is Falcon Grey.

- The red is Royal Mail Red.

- The underframe and bogie areas are Underframe Black. (I used Matt black)

- The bonnets are Matt Black.

- The grilles on the bodyside are Gloss Black. (I used Matt black)

- The noses are Warning Yellow.

I used Pheonix Enamel paints.

Looking at pics of the real thing the grills and bonnet tops look to be the same grey as the roof and lower bodysides (Falcon Grey), not black

PHD designs also do the correct nose types for the Bachmann model as well, with the LED Tail lights, not sure if the MU socket is on the right side though:

The MU socket can always be filled and the Led type marker lights are correct for use on a model of 37884 things like the nose top board holders can be made from plasticard and plastic rod or removed from a Bachman nose and transplanted on to the resin cast noses, to do this it's just a case of using some time and vision.

It's not a MU socket on the nose end of 37800/884. (It is however a MU socket - DRS variant of blue star - on the PHD moulding)

The socket on 800/884 is for the jumper cable from the translator gear located in the nose of the 37 to operate the brakes on the EMU.

(That's why the ROG 37s are dragging round lots of units as they've had the forethought to use loco mounted translator gear instead of translator coaches that involve extra shunting at journey's start and end)

Cheers,

Mick
