rockershovel
Visited the Threlkeld Mining Museum and saw this Curious little thing, some sort of very early battery locomotive. It seems that an early form of overhead line locomotive was used in Greenside and/or Force Crag mines, before being condemned by HMIM in 1945 and converted to battery operation; the loco was apparently converted to battery operation. The timbers holding the cables can be seen in Greenside, so I'd guess that its career at Force Crag was during its battery days - I briefly worked at Force Crag clearing tips in the 1980s or early 1990s and they certainly had a charging station for battery loco at that time. Does anyone have any pictures of the original loco? These early OHEL locos are a fascinating subject..
