LNER D9 (GCR 11D) drawing

Recommended Posts

There's a drawing which appeared in the September 1963(!) issue of Model Railway News. It's a side and front view with half-plan, drawn by T.A.Lindsay and showed a boiler pitch of 8'1", which would make it one of the original saturated engines.

I can't vouch for the accuracy of the drawing at all - I've never measured it against other sources or anything like that - but it does exist.

I concur, it was September 1963 across the centre fold. You should be able to pick up a copy of the aforesaid issue on Ebay or similar. As for accuracy of the drawing it does 'look right' without verification and it is a fine quality drawing so no particular reason for any doubts.

Interestingly there is an article detailing the build of such a 4mm scale locomotive inside and on the front cover of the June 1966 edition of Railway Modeller by none other than the esteemed GCR historian John Quick. He states "I had suitable drawing at hand" so this could be the same one published only three years earlier.

I believe you can contact John Quick via the GCR Society and the latter have an online presence.

One other thing, don't be tempted by the old McGowan whitemetal kit... good grief, there's a place not to go brandishing a ruler.

Regards,

Nick
