pctrainman
Hi , I have pretty much completed the track and scenic aspects of my N gauge layout which is loosely based on BR's Midland region around 1962 and now want to add signals appropiate to the layouts needs and also the time and place , I have asked this question on another forum and basically got pretty much nowhere other than being given links to signalling in the real world plus one devoted entirely to colour lights ,I have read and reread umpteen articles but still can't get my head around this complex subject . I would like Semaphores (MSE) as much as possible but am not against having colour lights on the 2 loops if it makes things easier ,I have some non working ground signals from PD Marsh and would also like to know where to place those , I have attached an overhead shot of the layout
ejstubbs
Er, you seem to have forgotten to attach the photo! I'd suggest asking this question in the Permanent Way, Signalling & Infrastructure forum on here (or you could ask the moderators to move this thread there for you). ejstubbs
How do I ask the moderators to move it ?. Good question. I thought you could do it by clicking on the "Report" link, but if you do that it says: This form is to be used ONLY for reporting objectionable content and is not to be used as a method of communicating with moderators for other reasons. So not that way, then. There doesn't seem to be a general purpose "contact the moderators" mechanism. I suggest you try sending a PM to user "Andy Y", with a link to this thread so that he knows which one to move.

Junctionmad
It can be hard to signal layouts like that because everything is condensed. You will have to decide to what level you wish to signal. ( and how they will control trains ). Essentially signals were dictated by the movements that needed to be controlled rather then simply a function of track work. Configurations could have more or less signalling depending on the movements that had to be controlled/allowed I'm no expect on WR signalling , but basically you could start with platform starters and ahead of that advance starters , on the approach you would have inner and outer home signals , again the condensed space poses challenges if you wish to "drive to signals " A track plan would be useful rather then a picture
