carl1967
first up, what you will need to start. MIG weathering pigment powders MIG RUST & SMOKE, Item Ref: P227 or equivalent. Humbrol 49 matt clear Humbrol 34 matt white remove bogies and wheels uesing the matt clear and mig pigment industialcity dirt, P039 or equivalent and a 10mm wide brush, Paint on the matt clear, then dip the brush in the pigment and work it in to the matt clear, best doing this bit by bit so the clear is still wet and the pigment mixes well in. you do not need much pigment, paint everywhere like a wash, thin the clear 50 50. give the bogies the same wash. once the clear starts to dry, do not work it anymore, leave it to dry overnight. do not over do it, the pigment will dry alot lighter and show up so much more when dry. here are pictures of this stage. thats it for now, more tomorrow carl
carl1967
now step 2 using an old brush, dry brush the matt white over the model, highlighting all the detail. use some scrap wood, add some matt white to it, dip the brush in this and then work 95% back off the brush on the wood, then and only then bush the model, this is dry brushing its best practising on some old cheep wagons before trying to do this on any new stock. here's some pictures This is how the pigment drys Working the brush Now dry brush the model Repeat on the bogies When dry, rewheel and refit the bogies, thats it for stage 2 Sage 3 i will show you how to do the loads feel free to ask me anything
carl1967
hi all step 3, the load. you will need some redymixed filler and some balsa wood. i uesd 1" by 1" balsa. Cut this to length so it fits inside. Cut this in half. Then carve to this shape. Then sand. Then glue them in. Mix up some filler to a smooth paste. Using a bush, paint the filler inside the wagon, covering the balsa. try not to get any on the outside of the wagon. Leave to set for 20minnits, Then with a small brush, add more filler to the tops of the high spots and work it down to the sides. Leave to set over night. Thats it for now. carl1967
hi all step 3 when set, mix up some PVA Glue with water, 50/50 get some ballast ready. paint the 50/50 mix PVA inside the wagon like so. place the wagon in a tray or box lid and pour in the ballast. leave for 5 minutets and then pour out the excess ballast, if there are any spots the ballast has not stuck, use a small brush and dab PVA in this and sprinkle ballast on. leave to dry over night. then remove any loose ballast by holding upside down and tapping. then repaint the 50/50 PVA mix over the ballast and leave to dry overnight. then using the mig pigments, dry brush it inside the wagon inner edge and on the ballast like so. thats it, Done. then, use them on your layout..lol and good luck. thanks carl
