Simon Moore
Recently i have started to collect models from what i saw during my childhood mostly late 80's early 90's stuff. During the school holidays one year my dad suprised me with a London trip i think it might have been a rail riders tour or something out of rails. We toured London visiting the sheds i remember Selhurst , Old oak , Willsden & Ripple Lane but we did go to various others too. One of the things i do remember is the gatwick expresses, i would like to replicate the Gatwick express & the one thing i want to start with is the DVT that was on one end of the express. I know it was some kind of slamdoor emu but i have no idea what it is & if it is possible to replicate. Can anyone give me any info on what it was & if Dc kit do any bits to make one?? Cheers Simon. RMweb Premium John M Upton Posted March 22, 2010 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 22, 2010 You seek this: http://www.semgonline.com/gallery/class489_1.html The driving cars were converted former 2-HAP cars which became Class 489 GLV (Gatwick Luggage Van) cars. Note that unlike other Mk 1 profile EMU's these were rebuilt with lower tumble homes to make them look a bit more in keeping with the Mk 2 based trailer stock. I would have thought that a hack of the MLV bodyshell available from Replica would be a good starting point.
RMweb Premium pete_mcfarlane Posted March 22, 2010 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 22, 2010 MJT do a set of etched sides for these in 4mm scale, along with the cast driving ends and motor bogie. Underframe gear can come from Southern Pride. I've never done one myself as they are too recent for me. Incidentally these are called GLVs - Gatwick Luggage Van and not DVTs, and were powered rather than unpowered driving trailers.
Simon Moore
Pete Thanks for that i've just had a look at the website its going to cost me around £40 - £60 to complete one i think that is going to be my next modelling project after the class 76. Certainly going to have a crack at one their a must & something i've not seen before on a model railway which i think will be a nice intresting subject in future workbench topics. Simon.
