HeavyDuty
I have a rake of Bachmann Mk 1 RES "Super BGs" that I'd like to convert to NEM pocket Kadees. I've been using the brake pipe couplings but they are difficult to couple up and break down when I take this equipment to my club. I'll initially only use the Kadees within the rake so height is secondary. NEM pocket Kadees would need to be special ordered. Can anyone offer advice as to what version I would need to use to retain the current coupling distance I'm getting with the brake pipe drawbars? Thank you! Allegheny1600
Hi Ken, You should be just fine with No. 20's! Actually, i think you'll find that they will give you a slightly closer coupling but they are the longest NEM fitted Kadee you can get! Cheers, John E. Guest 838rapid
Aslong as you dont have any tight radius 1 curves number 20's as suggested will be fine. I run all my Mark 1 stock with them with no problems. If you speciffy number 20's they will come with the correct fittings to suit the Bachmann coaches too
HeavyDuty
Thank you both! I was amazed to find my local pusher had a few packs of #20s in a drawer in back - apparently someone special ordered them a few years ago and never picked them up. They fit the Super BGs well, I installed them throughout the rake and am keeping the tension lock on the front for the moment until I determine how to best Kadee my Class 67. We have a public show Saturday, and I don't want to tear into it with no real plan so close to the show. Again, thank you for the assistance!
shortliner
I hope you'll take some photos of the show - it is always good to see what you guys on the left hand side of the pond are displaying
HeavyDuty
I'll try to remember to put the camera in the bag!
RMweb Premium BR60103 Posted March 27, 2010 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 27, 2010 Ken: If you have a bit more room between coaches than you like, you could move down to a 19 or possibly an 18. If you're keeping the rake fixed and not rotating the coaches, you could have, say, a 20 at the front and a 19 at the back. Does the 67 have an NEM pocket? HeavyDuty
David, that was my idea after seeing how it looked in operation today - I'd like to try 19s, and if that's too tight one of each since the rake is fixed. The 67 does have a NEM pocket, but I plan to fix the endplate and chassis mount the couplings. Running today was flawless. And Jack - I had the camera in my pocket the whole day but forgot to take a single photo!
