ronpixe
I am looking at buying the N gauge DCC version of the Kato Tamping Machine but getting conflicting reports on its reliability and running. Is anyone running this loco I would be interested in how you find them and any problems before I commit to purchasing one.

Assuming the mechanism is the same then it runs well and at low speeds but is extremely noisy due to the long driveshaft. I've not run mine hard as I still need to fit a chip to it and for the non DCC version the conversion itself is easy but the disassembly of the unit to do it is scary stuff. It does run well apart from having regular bogie collapses and the resultant search of the layout for 'bits' Bill

RMweb Gold Mr.S.corn78 Posted April 1, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 1, 2010 Hi, I was thinking about getting one of these as the next little project and after Reading what people have put and the arrival via the link I'm going to wait till they start to appear on eBay. I think after a little bit of work and a bit of dark art magic it could be made to run and look quite nice cheers Simon
