Wire in tube and uncoupling

Recommended Posts

Hi all

Looking at what to use for point operation and autouncoupling. Some of my points will be 100mm above the lower baseboard and am wondering if wire in tube method would work, and if so, what suppliers do people recommend. Looking for something straightforward.

Also looking into tips for auto uncoupling, or if there are other methods would like to hear about those.

Any help much appreciated.

Good Evening Barney 121e

For turnout operation have you thought of using wire coat hangers cut near the hanging hook and straightened out and fed through plastic choc blocks after removing the brass bit inside.Bind a piece of piano type wire bent in a right angle with ordinary layout wire and solder together and feed the wire through the baseboard into the hole in the point. Screw the plastic choc blocks to the underside of the baseboard to support the coat hanger wire and use another single choc block as a handle.

This sounds complex but it only takes a couple of minutes or so per point  to complete.

One of the great simple methods. Combine with a double pole slide switch with a hole drilled through the operating peg to engage the coathangar wire end bent at a right angle, and there's a way to switch the crossing as well.

Use a normal point motor cunningly hidden under an adjacent structure and linked to the point with a bit of bent wire. Seeps can be surface mounted using a piece of 20x20 angled plastic or metal
