Didcot railway centre

Ok folks, piffling trivia time again.

Can anyone explain the working of trains into/out of Didcot Railway Centre please?

I picked up a 2001 Railtrack GW Sectional Appendix recently. In section 4 it goes into great detail about the working of trains at all sorts of places, for example to/from the PDSR at Paignton.

Despite a lengthy section covering Didcot yard, power station etc, there is no mention off the railway centre.

Clearly stock does occasionally pass from the GWS to NR, so how is this managed?

Dunno, but it is possible that movements between GWS and NR are handled by staff on the ground by handsignals as the GWS does not outlet directly on to any NR running line, but into their Didcot yard, which it is effectively a set of private sidings off, under the authority of a responsible person designated by the yard supervisor by arrangement with his oppo in GWS.  Once in the NR yard, the GWS stock can be 'belled out' on to the running lines in the normal way by the yard supervisor requesting a road from the signalling centre.  Ingress to GWS would be a reverse of the above, with the GWS stock being signalled from an NR running road (down relief?) into the yard's reception road and handsignalled from there on to GWS metals, where it becomes their problem.  As I say, don't know, but suggesting this as a possible way in which it could be worked without appearing as a mention in the Sectional Appendix.

Not piffling trivia at all, vital stuff for those involved in the stock movements, and in any case interesting.

Occasionally, idthink it would just be short term planning and everything seems to be transferred from the hardstanding by DBC didcot depot.

They used to have regular movements of old wagons in out that had rubbish bins on. Quite amusing to watch a 66 shunt these in and out.

The omission is interesting (and continues to this day assuming nothing has been added since last December!) as the GWS siding has both a gate and wheelstop.  In contrast the Tip Siding and Tamper Siding are covered in the Sectional Appendix but they require specific actions not covered in the Rule Book.

So the simple answer is that as there are no amplifications or Instructions to the contrary then the Rule Book applies (although Module SS2 effectively covers the wheelstop it doesn't specifically cover gates at the entrance to private sidings although logically the 'entering a building' Instruction would apply).

Back in 2002 this was the wagon used to supply the coal.

These are two of the current wagons, a third was in the coaling stage, another OBA I think.

And the bin wagon? This is the odd one because all the others are air braked, this appears to be unfitted....
