darren01
Hi all Has anyone one else come across this with the Hornby Maunsell coaches, before anyone says it I am not Hornby bashing. Having ordered 6 BR SR Maunsell coaches over the last few months, I have been finding that some of them have damage on them. The first one had a deep scratch in one of the doors. The second, had someone on the last shift of the week, putting far too much glue around the windows, have you tried to remove it, what a pain. The third had a door handle missing. And now the last one I got has some of the running number missing. I know I could send these back and ask for a replacement, but it’s a pain to have to drive 15 miles to the post office. It’s ok I can live with it, but I am getting a little bit fed up, where it’s got the point that I have stopped buying them, from mail order. Next time I will get some more I will go to the shop and get them, but this means Around trip of 44 miles! And when I get their I will open up the box and check to make sure that there is no damage done, has anyone else come across this? Or is it just my bad luck . I know on here in the past we have talked about Hornby quality control ,but to have four coaches out of six with damage is getting a bit rich. Please do not turn this into bashing, if we have a sensible debate on this, then just maybe Hornby my take this on board, and do something about it. RMweb Gold Donw Posted March 29, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 29, 2010 Its always worth advising the supplier of your comments. They probably order enough to make Hornby listen. Donw
darren01
HI All of the coaches came from different shops ,so just not down to one shop. All the best Darren
RMweb Premium 2ManySpams Posted March 29, 2010 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 29, 2010 Darren Sounds like you are being particularly unlucky - I've bought 20+ of these now and had no problems with them. There was a well publicised problem with some corridor glazing having the handrail printed too high but Hornby sorted that. Mind you most of mine were bought over a year ago - do your findings mean that quality control has been slipping in recent months?
Blue Max
I have also bought a number of Maunsell coaches where there has been damage which I have been able to repair and in the last instance a roof ventilator was missing. I went on to their online help service which in the post has always worked in geting the missing components, this time I received an automatically generated mail with a Concern Identification number stating I would be contacted within 28 days with a resolution. Nearly two months later and still no mail or resolution so I have e-mailed again, guess what, still no answer. What is the point in having the service on their web site if it is not responded to. RMweb Gold Barry Ten Posted March 29, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 29, 2010 My Maunsells have been fine, other than a loose window in a southern parcels van, but a couple of recent Hornby locos purchased over the internet both arrived with details broken off and rattling around in the box. In both instances I was able to repair the damage myself in a few minutes but it could have been very disheartening to a youngster or less experienced modeller. One loco also appeared to have been rammed into its packaging, with the tissue paper shredded around it. Not sure if this suggests a systematic drop in quality control but it's another incentive to examine/test when buying, if at all possible.
Torn-on-the-platform
Most of my maunsells are from the original batch, but I have one of the new ones (4 compartment brake I believe) and it's fine! I am aware that theres been criticism of the Southern malachite is the same as the BR green though.
Marty Mc
Hi I have purchased a fair few and never had any problems. Sorry to hear about your bad luck. Can you repair any of them? On a lighter note I accept full responsibility for the damage I did to 6 Maunsell coaches and a loco. Silly me left them in the car for less than 24 hours. 40+ degrees outside and they were fully covered in the boot. The loco with the coaches was no better. Worst part about it I had stripped all of them and added lights and decoders to the coaches + the loco was sound. The new Maunsell! I will not do that again! m
craigwelsh
Mind you if you do a whole layout like that you can put it in the Tate Modern...

Also your car insurance may have had a section for accidental damage to goods in transit? 36E

Barry That sounds more like the loco had been on display in the shop or taken out of the box in the shop and put back in with not enough care.
