A4s stored at Galashiels?

Did I dream it or were some A4s really stored at Galashiels in between being displaced from the ECML and taking up duties on the Glasgow Aberdeen in the 1960s? Which locos were kept there? For how long? Are there any photographs?

Hehehehe, there's a photo here (somewhere):

Read the caption to this, I mean, a Waverley Route picture needs no excuse, but the story that this tells is simply incredible:

I've heard of the practice of closed depots being used for loco storage but never Gala!

Of all the true railway legends, they don't come much better than this!

When A4s were displaced from ECML duties, the Scottish Region got more than it needed immediately for Glasgow-Aberdeen 3 hour trains. Some, of course, were used for other duties, but others were stored until they were needed. In addition to Galashiels (which I didn't know about until 'Chard posted that photo), I saw some stored at Dalry Road (60006, 60007), Bathgate (60023, 60026, 60034) and Kittybrewster (60007) sheds at different times. Ferryhill itself kept some 'in reserve', too.

That, my friend, is the source of practically every waking dream that I have... albeit Blue diesels in the Borders also feature ;)

Back in what must have been 1971 or so, as a wee boy, I remember very vividly seeing some Borders 'steam' on a car trip, the cameo featured a disused village station in a good state of preservation, amid much local bunting and fanfare. I'd love to think I witnessed some arcane ritual at Longtown or Newcastleton, but I know this can't have been the case. Maybe Keswick or Dinting, but I am convinced to this day it was a Borders setting.

I went with my uncle to Dalry road several times in 1962/3/4 and I remember seeing some strangers in store there - he did not pay them much heed, as they were not designed by Stanier ("give me a hiker over one of these any time" was a typical remark) and I have since lost my notebooks after several numerous moves over the years - thanks for the remonder of what I saw (and was encouraged to ignore as he thought that a dozen or so Black 5s would do the job better!) In that respect he had some evidence as he occasionally substituted a Black 5 for a Duchess (or on a couple of occasions for a 40) and they were pretty good at almost maintaining time.
