John57sharp
Hi all, I have a Wolf butane gas soldering iron that has just failed to work properly. The flame now spurts out of the air hole at the the side of the bits rather feebly, rather than roaring hard. I think it may be related to a small piece of gauze that was lodged within the flame tube but appears to br breaking up. I don't have a working one to compare, can anybody advise please? TIA John
John57sharp
Well a huge response to that! I have been on to the manufacturers and it appears to be beyond repair. The gauze on these does become brittle with use, and I haven’t been able source a replacement. Buyer beware!
RMweb Gold ianLMS Posted November 22, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 22, 2017 I have a cheaper version, Irodo Solder-Pro 70 ( http://www.pro-iroda.com/pro70k.htm)and is very useful for heat shrink, heating styrene rod to shape it etc. I dont use it for soldering as the heat from the side tends to damage everything within an inch, so use a regular iron. Mine coughs and spits a little to begin with but settles down after a while p probably due to cheap lighter gas. I can still get spare tips, but the fitting with the gauze probably not. However, at only £30+ for the kit, if it played up a lot, i could easily replace it.
