RMweb Premium Pannier Tank Posted April 2, 2010 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 2, 2010 Can anyone advise if Hornby have produced the latest 08 model in a plain green, no yellow warning panel version? I've had a quick interweb search and can only find yellow ender's. Ta Although earlier built examples appeared in Plain Black, I'm not sure if the 08's ever appeared in Plain Green. RMweb Premium Pannier Tank Posted April 2, 2010 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 2, 2010 http://www.railbrit....e2.php?id=26829 Well you learn something new every day; I wasn't aware that the 350's ran without Yellow / Black Stripes. I assume this was pre 1960's.
Caledonian
The latest one is actually a 450hp 09, but yes its in plain green, apart from and all black front, the grey cab roof and of course the red buffer beams
'CHARD
http://www.railbrit.co.uk/imageenlarge/imagecomplete2.php?id=26829 Great photo, a never before seen aspect of 64A too. Oozing atmosphere, tremendous.
giz
Well you learn something new every day; I wasn't aware that the 350's ran without Yellow / Black Stripes. I assume this was pre 1960's. According Steve Jordan's second volume on 08s, Crewe and Horwich were producing new locos in green without chevrons into February 1960. There is also a photo in there of D3721, brand new, in the livery of the Hornby model linked to above with black radiator and wooden cab doors. craigwelsh
That shot is interesting as it seems to be black roof on the bonnet down to the top of the engine doors. The 09 looks very odd aesthetically with that black radiator grille, almost as if its still in undercoat awaiting chevrons! I'm not aware of an all green one, you may have to paint out the nose though at least they can be picked up cheap now sometimes.
Hammer
I'm 99% positive that Hornby haven't done the new 08 without the wasp stripes yet. I'm living in hope that they do one sometime soon
