Pennyslvania RR BP-20

What do people think the chances are of another HO model of the mighty PRR BP-20 sharknose diesels? As far as I know (and I am probably wrong) the only HO model I've ever seen is the old one made by Samhongsa for Oriental in the 1980's, which still go for pretty high prices when they appear on EBay or in brass retailers. That model is not the best as the nose profile is not quite right IMO, and they can be quite hard to find if you want a good one even if you are willing to spend what is needed to buy one. The BP-20's were some of the finest looking diesel locomotives ever made I think, the classic sharknose but with bulked up proportions which gave them a much more imposing look than the more common B-B versions which have been well modelled in HO by Broadway, and the old ER version can still scrub up well, OMI did them too. I know the BP-20 was a rare beast but we've seen models of rarer beasts. One brass manufacturer did the Ingalls 4S which few have ever heard off and was a one off and Heljan made a nice niche for themselves doing one off pilot scheme diesels. Be nice if somebody did make a killer BP-20.

It would be an exciting model, that's for sure!

I would write/email Broadway Limited and request such a model. The rarity of the brass model and lack of other versions is surely in your favour.

When Broadway were in their early days and had introduced their PRR J1 2-10-4, I wrote to them, petitioning for the C&O T1, upon which the PRR J1 was based. Now, I was probably not the only one to do so but it worked! Within a couple or so years, BLI did introduce the T1.

It was an obvious choice really but such petitions must help.

Selling points;

No other plastic model,

Brass examples extremely rare,

Resin kit out of production,

Imposing, exotic prototype,

Suitable for a popular road (only PRR!),

Two liveries plus variants.

Plus, Broadway are keen Pennsy enthusiasts, it seems.

Good luck,

John.

I might well e-mail Broadway, after all they seem to be very enthusiastic about Pennsylvania RR prototypes and have done some quirky subjects. They certainly did a good job of the Baldwin BF-16/RF-16 B-B sharknoses. Failing that I'll probably bite the bullet and look for an Oriental model.

I would give CMR a try as well, they seem to be producing all sorts at the moment, and at a rapid rate. I've not tried any of their products, so I don't know how crisp the mouldings are, but many people seem happy with them. Now if they did half the stuff in O that they do in Ho or N ...........

Hope this helps.
