RJD
I am replacing the plastic wheelsets on 00 Bachmann coaches (Collett, Bulleid, and Thompson)and would like to know which wheelset is wider over the pin-point bearings - Bachmann or Hornby. Thanks, Richard Davies Utah USA
Il Grifone
AFAIK they are both the same and the British standard of 26mm. Hornby certainly use this length. Again I believe both use 2mm diameter axles, so at worst it should be possible to swop the wheels on the axles. However some plastic wheels do sit on larger diameter axles. Most of my coaches run on the old Jackson wheels. Earlier examples of these use 1.9mm* axles, later ones the standard 2mm. * That's what they measure. I believe the old axle diameter was 15 S.W.G. (72 thou.)
RMweb Premium JZ Posted April 11, 2010 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 11, 2010 Straight swap. I have done all of mine and some old Airfix/Mainline/Replica ones as well.
nzgresleyfan
Straight swap. I have done all of mine and some old Airfix/Mainline/Replica ones as well. Agreed. I have recently rewheeled numerous plastic wheeled Bachmann Thompsons and Mainline Colletts with the metal Bachmann replacements. They dropped straight in and improved the running no end. Rob. RMweb Premium JZ Posted June 9, 2010 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 9, 2010 Not only do they run better, but they sound better too. File a small 'vee' into the rail every foot of so.
