WillCav
Hi all, I'm modelling OO gauge GWR in 1947. I have a couple of 6 wheel milk tanks with white tanks, blue stripe and white UNITED DAIRIES branding (Lima 305703). Is this livery correct for the era? If not, which livery should it be UD or United Dairies in black? Many Thanks Will

WillCav
Thanks Fat Controller, I've already found Paul's website and it is a mine of information. I can't find any pictures relevant to 1947 there though. Most of those milk tanks are being reused for other liquids by this time. Will
mikejames
I thought this an interesting question on which there ought to be photograph evidence. I remember milk trains in the 50s as a teenager from holidays in devon and cornwall. I googled photos of culm valley railway - well known for its dairy. There are lots of photos altho' mainly later than 1947 and I don't know if they were 'united dairies' or some other chain (wikipeda says they are ud) but my conclusion is the correct livery is dirty black! this is born out by many other photos from the web. regards mike j edit There is another tread in prototype questions which appears to have a high overlap with this question entitled 1950s Milk Tank liveries Started by fender, Sep 29 2012 21:20 not sure how to link Mike j Edited June 2, 2018 by mikejames
