Exporail cosmetic restoration of VIA Rail FP9A #6309

Don't know if / how the benefits would apply to those outside Canada so anyone interested might want to check before donating.

 

Exporail is raising C$34,000 to do a cosmetic restoration of VIA 6309, after which it will be displayed indoors.

 

Rapido Trains is supporting this effort with a couple of benefits at certain donation levels:

 

- $1,000 - a C$200 Rapido Trains gift voucher (unknown if outside of Canada, see above).

 

- $1,500 - complimentary sound-equipped VIA FP9A model in the GPA-17e series (C$360 value, unknown if outside of Canada, see above).

This loco is certainly part of Canadian railroad history as one of the first generation of classic passenger diesels and serving for 39 years in frontline passenger duties. It fully deserves restoration and will be much more relevant to most Canadians than the guest British steam locos.
