It was scanned from a slide I took which could have been about 25 years ago. Is that possible? It was one of the two locos on duty that day, There was a swap of locos at Levisham on the return to Pickering as it was the last train of the day.

Does that still happen?

I was impressed by how hard a loco has to work on the gradients on the line, some of the other preserved lines seem to have a much easier time!

I hadn't appreciated how much the loco yaws from side to side as each piston produces its power.

Ah a day off tomorrow so I'm off to the NYMR to hopefully see/photo/ride behind 45428, 44871 and the visiting N2 1744 matched with the GNR saloon. Thanks for the photos!

45428 finally returned to service today and it still requires its cabside numbers and looks mighty fine, i watched it leave with i think was the 1.30pm train to pickering and then the class 25 came thru to take over the whitby working due to the failure of 44871 upon arrival at grosmont and its been a nice day up there today even tho i was grinding all day on the class 50 :)

if anybody is travelling to the nymr tomorrow please note the following, today has been chaos today for the nymr due to line closure between pickering and goathland due to a number of fires and it started around 12pm and services were suspend even the diner tonight is grosmont to goathland so the final day of the steam gala could see diesels involved this is due to high fire risk at the moment over the moors and they are thinking of changing firecon status
