hst forever
Now that the new station at Warrington West is due for opening in a couple of months. The station is built on land that was previously RAF Burtonwood which had a rail connection to the Cheshire Lines route from Liverpool to Manchester . I have often thought of modelling the area with a smaller version of the airfield does anyone on the forum know what diesel shunters the base used.I have seen photos of military vehicles on flatbed wagons but no photos of any locos many thanks for any info hst forever
APOLLO
Back around 1985 or so the airbase line was reopened for a while. I remember seeing BR class 20's crossing Burtonwood Road with a few vans now and again. I never remember seeing a private diesel shunter. The siding went alongside the big building parallel to Burtonwood Road and the vans unloaded there. There was a run round loop for the BR loco, can't remember which side of the crossing it was on though. Some interesting info here. Site 8 is the big building above, served by the railway siding. https://www.historicaviationmilitary.com/site8.html Main site https://www.historicaviationmilitary.com/burtonwoodhome.html Brit15 Edited February 7, 2019 by APOLLO additional info added 1
