RMweb Premium mezzoman253 Posted October 16, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 16, 2019 Changes are afoot at Yahoo Groups. From 21st October you will not be able to upload new content, plus other changes. Please see https://help.yahoo.com/kb/groups/SLN31010.html?impressions=true Email will stay as is. w124bob
So from December it becomes pretty much useless once old content disappears. Might as well just switch it off!

Sprintex
I wouldn't even know what a Yahoo Group is or does? Paul

RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted October 18, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 18, 2019 I think SEmG, a most valuable resource for Southern enthusiasts, used to use Yahoo for its members discussions. The site owner offered a decade ago to change the format to something more modern - instancing RMweb as a good example. A democratic vote revealed no majority for change, so it stayed where it was. I left to join RMweb instead, so have no idea whether SEmG will be at risk. I hope not.
RMweb Premium John M Upton Posted October 18, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 18, 2019 I remember back when it was EGroups and actually useful before Yahoo's dedicated army of imbeciles bought it up and promptly wrecked it.
Classsix T
I didn't get past mezzoman's initial link because of the sh!t cookie policy, but is Verizon, and thus Yahoo, part of Microsoft? I've been a member of a couple of Groups, Anglia Gen and 60 Gen and all seemed well until Microsoft bought it. The email turned into ad heavy toss too with seemingly frequent data breaches etc compared to Gmail, but perhaps that's inevitable with a group system and tied in email. Can Group admins lift their content and migrate to (I dunno) Discord or some such? C6T.
bike2steam
Ah Yahoo have been in existence these past years?, surprising, I was a member of a few groups but dumped them years ago as useless after RMweb started.

A group that I belong to switched to an outfit called "groups.io"; the transition was seamless and seems to work quite well.

SEmG migrated to groups.io as SREmG, still alive and kicking thankfully. https://groups.io/g/SREmG 2 2
Krusty
Quote is Verizon, and thus Yahoo, part of Microsoft? Verizon is a ginormous Yanqui telecoms company (kinda, sorta like a big version of Vodafone) which bought most of Yahoo a couple of years ago, merged it with some other purchased companies in its Oath subsidiary, and has been flogging off/closing down the bits it can't make a big enough profit from ever since.
