Poys718
Doea anyone know the best way to take the nameplates off the Bachmann hall so they can be replaced with etched ones?
RMweb Gold The Johnster Posted October 23, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 23, 2019 (edited) You can replace name and numberplates with etched of your choice very easily, Poys, it's one of the simplest and most effective upgrades out there. The plates are supplied in a brass etch and need to be cut out carefully with snips, and the 'pips' filed off. They are very thin brass and care needs to be taken to keep them flat, especially the longer nameplates. You simply glue them over the printed name and number plates on your model; I use acrylic matt varnish for this as it does not show up if some goes where it shouldna oughta, and it is perfectly effective at fixing the plates in position. Moreover, it takes a few minutes to go off dry, so you can fine tune the actual positioning. You don't need to remove the old nameplates and I'd advise you not to try for fear of 'collateral' damage, unless the replacement is smaller than the original (Wolf Hall replacing Burton Agnes Hall). My go to for plates is Modelmaster King's Cross, and they will supply them with red or black background paint; red is suitable for some early BR period locos in both BR and late GW liveries. Steamport Southport
I take it this is Rood Ashton Hall from the set. The last Bachmann Hall I got previously they were in the box, still on the etch. They normally have a printed one which you cover over. However these are fitted. 247 Developments ones fit perfectly. They are after all the ones Bachmann use and now do some without the "flitch plate" which is the metal support the nameplate is on. So are even easier to fit. https://www.247developments.co.uk/ex_gwr_names.html You just need to carefully slide a scalpel / thin craft knife under them and they ping off.
