OH NO not another Lima prairie

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

In a previous thread I had stated my intention to put a Lima prairie chassis into a Hornby M7 body. Unfortunately that failed due to the height of the Lima motor being way too tall to fit . So Yet again I had another very crest fallen and average running prairie. I say yet again as this is the 5th Lima prairie I had bought for spares and bits. And again like the others I have ended up restoring it. I really must stop buying them...… lol.

Ok the body shell was in one piece with nothing broken. But it had a really badly done paint job some time in the past. Both whistles were missing and it was a poor runner.

So I gave it a full service and found out that one of the 2 pickups on the left side was faulty and the other one barely touched the wheel. I repaired the pick ups and with the service gave them a good clean. Made 2 new whistles. Replaced the missing vacuum pipe. Added real coal.

The wheels were caked in dirt so they got a good clean. the chassis now runs very well.

Not having any more GWR transferes to hand I decided to make it a BR black version. Made a change as all the rest are in various GWR liveries. I know before any one mention it that the engine number is for a large prairie and not a small prairie but at this moment it is on for effect only. Plus as I am just beginning to get over the corona virus I did not particularly care it was just some thing to do to make me feel a bit better.

first piccys are of course pre and the second lot post as if a I really had to tell you...….. :)

Hi Hall,

Yes it was a shame, But not to worry I will hopefully have another 5 engines coming if I win them to restore. And not one of them is  prairie...…. lol. I am hoping to get some Jinty 0-6-0 chassis one of which may turn in to an 0-6-2 with the M7 body.

  • 9 months later...

Still have 2 running on Brislington. One of them hauls the works train. These must be around 40 years old now. Just keep them lightly oiled.

I also have 2 of the Bachmann ones. Wonder if they'll still be around in another 40 odd years !!!
