RMweb Gold TravisM Posted May 14, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 14, 2020 I’m trying to put together a steel train comprising of EWS/DBC BRA and BYA coil steel carriers. Doing a little research, it would seem a lot of the BRA wagons were converted into BYA wagons. Is there any outside noticeable differences or is it mainly internal as the BRA’s were supposed to carry steel rod. Any sensible help would be most grateful
HGT1972
From looking at my photos it looks to be purely internal, the number and code being the only change. I think most of those still running are also coded BYA. Several of the BRAs ended up as convertor wagons on MBA rakes at Celsa Cardiff. This partial shot shows the interior of one with the bolsters intended, but rarely used, for steel bar traffic. Hywel

I think most of those still running are also coded BYA. This would always have been the case, as there were initially 260 BYA and only 50 BRA. As you suggest some of the BRA were used as barriers and others reverted to being the simpler BYA. And yes, externally no diffence.
