Workington Shuttle

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

Had another trip on the Workington shuttle last night. Just thought I'd post a few pics for anyone who is interested, especially with the service coming to an end next week. sad.gif

The ones of 47501 may be of particular interest given the Model Rail limited edition.

All taken at Workington and driven by our very own inestimable Clagmeister...

All part of history now.

In Cumbria, many called this service the Marra-no-cash Express(with apologies to Crosby, Stills and Nash).

For those unfamiliar, folks from West Cumberland and especially Maryport are known as 'Marras' - 'Marra' being the local dialect for 'mate' or 'pal'!

News item today:

Workington North temporary station to close as there are only an average of 2 passengers a day!

I believe there was a bit of a campaign to keep it open as it was a "valuable community asset". But not with only 2 passengers.
