RMweb Gold pheaton Posted January 11, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 11, 2021 Hi all, wondered what experiences anyone has had with implementing train detection using the ECoS, im looking to use IR detection, over current detection, the end goal is to use the shuttle facility on the ECoS which relies on inputs from train detection, so would be interested to know what people have used and how easy it was to implement? Thanks Simon
WIMorrison
AFAIK the ECoS has a built in S88 interface so why not use S88 modules - plenty around and cheap.
GoingUnderground
If you have a look on the ESU forum, you will find a topic in the last 3 months dealing with the use of IR detection and ECoS using the cheaper ECoSDetector Standard. http://www.esu.eu/en/forum/forums-overview/topic/other_esu_products_support/ecos_detector_with_ir_sensor/ For those who are not familiar with the ECoSDetector Standard (50096) it is NOT a cheaper version of the ECoSDetector (50094) without RailCom as it also lacks current sensing. This makes it unsuitable for use with 2 rail out of the box. Hence the need to use IR or reed switches and magnets with it when used with 2 rail. Why do ESU sell the "Standard"? Well, it's designed for 3 rail as it depends on the wheelsets not being insulated, and 3 rail centre stud contact is still used by Maerklin and is very popular in mainland Europe.
