Theraffman
Hello, I'm just getting back into the hobby from a long absence and decided to fit a Zimo MX644D to my new Bachmann 24 (the new version). According to Bachmann, the cab lights should function on F5 using their own 21 pin decoder, so I thought it would be reasonably straightforward to map this onto F12 (I moved the sound sample that was on F12 over to F17) on my Zimo decoder... Hmmm I found the post below very helpful, but just can't get the cab lights to illuminate at all. Can anyone confirm the cab lights actually work? And if so, what Fo are they wired to? Thanks a lot. Nigelcliffe
I'd guess this is the wonderful "there are two 21 pin standards, they are different" problem. (And the thread you're following is now very old. There are newer methods on Zimo decoders which means moving things is a lot easier. ). As to which 21 pin standard.... The Bachmann website links to one of their branded decoders, which is a re-badged ESU item (deduced because its a RailCom Plus capable decoder, and its only really ESU who are using RailCom Plus). So, off to ESU-land to work out which standard their 21 pin uses... Its not obvious, but the ESU manuals refer to things like "Marklin" in their diagrams, and Marklin use "logic" outputs on outputs Aux 3 and Aux4. So, fair chance Bachmann wired the class 24 that way. Back in Zimo-land, you're using a maker who say which decoder is which with MTC-21 pin standards. With the non-sound ones (MX634C/D), you can swap between the outputs with a decoder reset. But with sound it seems you have to choose the right one. MX644D is full power output, MX644C is logic-level. So, may need to go back to supplier and ask for an exchange. ( Edit - discussion with Pauliebanger off-line about which decoders have software change to different outputs. ) Edited January 27, 2021 by Nigelcliffe
Theraffman
Thanks Nigel, This is really useful information and I'll look into it further. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't chasing something that didn't exist and wasting a whole bunch of time doing so.
