Hi all.

 

I have been working for the last few months on creating, in 00, Oakworth station (KWVR), but before the second line was removed.

 

Track is layed, still have some wiring to do underneath.

 

I also have plans to add staging boards at both ends.

 

Il post updates as and when I think its worth me doing so. Also if anyone has any questions, feel free to ask.

 

(Excuse the mess in the garage also, need to tidy up)

I've just come across this, and see that no-one has replied.  The standard of work so far looks very good.  I'm not familiar with the subject, but all-in-all it looks like a good start.

Update:

 

Wiring is now complete, all point motors (Gaugemaster PM-1) are also working and my 2 control panels have been mostly finished (just need prettying up a little) so work has begun on scenery.

 

Ive started with the cottage which I am scratch building as I couldnt find anything suitable. Ive also built my sloped road section and garden for the cottage.

 

I have also mocked up the goods shed in cereal box for now so i could get sizing correct before I scratch build that also.

Update:

 

Rear and side backscene boards are now in place. I made them removable so i can stick the backscene on at a later date.

 

 

 

I have also made a start on my transition corner base boards, which will eventually have traverser boards at 90 degrees to the main layout at each end, making the layout a big C shape for use at shows.

Some very nice woodworking there. A great base on which to build.

Made some progress on the landscape. Used a combination of fine aluminium mesh and insulation board covered with Mod Roc. However i did run out of the Mod Roc so this is as far as ive got until more arrives.

Mod roc now all dry so moved onto painting.

 

Used Hobbycraft brown ready mixed paint, but found it rubbed off the mod roc, so mixed with some wood glue (as didnt have any PVA to hand) and this is the result.

 

Also made a start on the sleeper grime spray paint...

Made some more progress. Got the rest of the front scenery brown base coat done, ready for static grass now. And finished spraying the sleeper grime.

 

Ordered my flexible platform, so thats the next step, and picked up some ballast today ready for when  the platform is in place.

As I currently have covid (again...) I made a start on my platform.

 

Its the LX414-OO kit from www.scalemodelscenery.co.uk, which is a laser cut kit that requires glueing together. The reason im using this is because its flexible which i needed for my curve.

 

Currently its just taped down until i get the positioning correct, and my smaller wood screws arrive.

Screwed down the platform wall, and added a subtle slope to the car park section behind the station building, down towards the front of the layout to better match the real location, and fit better with the sloped road section.

 

The platform top is not yet glued down, but is mostly cut to the correct size.

Just discovered this, so apologies for the ‘likes’. Agree wholeheartedly with what others have said; nice woodwork and looks to be shaping into a nice layout.

 

A few questions if I may;

1) how long is the scenic section?

2) what radius points have you used? (I’m assuming you’re using Peco track)

and finally;

3) did Oakworth have a double slip after the trailing point? I only ask as the diagram of Oakworth in my copy of The John Swift Collection Volume 12 shows a crossing (although I know those diagrams are not always accurate) and the old OS maps are a bit ambiguous in these areas.

 

Again, great work! I’ll be following further progress with interest from now on!

Sorry for the late reply, as you may know RMWeb has been down for a while, seems to be mostly back, apart from the images which im slowly re-adding to my posts again, however, I will answer your questions best I can:

 

1) The scenery section is 4 metres long, and comprises of 3 sections. The centre section is 2 metres long, with each end section being 1 metre long, this is so I can take both of the 1 metre sections off, up end them, and mount them face down on top f the 2 metre section. This makes it easier to transport for shows. Ive added the picture below to show it stacked.

 

2) The track is Peco code 75, and all but one of the points are large radius. And one of the points by the double slip that goes to the crossover is a medium radius, simply as that's what fit.

 

3) I believe that there was no double slip at Oakworth, looking at some very old black and white low resolution photos of when the second line was still in use, it looks like a crossover, however for ease of use for layout purposes, I used a double slip where the second line spurs off over the mainline into the goods yard. I'm trying to keep it as close to real as possible, but have made a few decisions like this to keep it practical.

Little bit more progress. Got the stone wall texture now up on the platform edge.

 

This means i can now move onto ballasting...

So im still yet to start my ballasting....but I have been making some small progress elsewhere.

 

Platform top surface and coping almost ready to be glued down, and station cottage now has roof, windows and guttering.

 

 

 

Trying my best to make more progress,  and hopefully as the weather changes for the worst i will get more done.

Made some progress now with the goods shed. The doors are removable so I can show it in different door open/closed combinations.

 

I plan to put a basic interior inside, the guttering is ready to be attached but I want to get my windows in first so I dont risk breaking them off.

So I bought peco lk-50 level crossing kit some time ago. I came to the conclusion that the standard length of the gates in this kit would not be enough to span my tracks with the spacing I have.

 

So i bought a second kit and extended all 4 gates. I glued them in place today and think they look ok.

 

 

I also made a start on the car park rear wall, and added the small stone wall around the cottage garden.

Hi all, sorry its been a while since I posted anything, life has been happening so I havent had chance.

 

I have managed to get my platform now mostly finished. I used slaters plasticard for the cobbles, and laser cut coping, both painted to look like slightly dirtied stone. It needs some blending where i painted each part slightly differently, but im mostly happy with it.

 

 

 

I have also added the path up the roadside and also added some more stone walling, however I did run out of it before finishing what I wanted to do (online shopping to be done over xmas). Il add pictures of those when I get some time.

Apologies for the delayed reply, i took a break from modelling for a bit, been a busy year so far.
