RMweb Gold mabel Posted March 12, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 12, 2021 As the title really. Struggling to find a stockist of Microscale decals in the UK. Can anyone point me in the right direction or am I stuck with the £8 Royal Mail tax? I have tried Hannants being that they are a huge stockists, but when I asked if they would order specific sets for me, strangely, they flat refused. Thanks Tony
RMweb Premium John M Upton Posted March 12, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 12, 2021 (edited) There is a German retailer on Ebay who I have secured a couple of sheets from https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/modelrailroadworks?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2754 who's postage to the UK is not unreasonable and it is quick (about four days for my last order even with the Brexit shenanigans going on!) I think they have their own proper online website version as well if you want to avoid Ebay.  UK suppliers seem to be completely non-existent although in theory a Walthers stockist should be able to get them in but I would not hold your breath.  I was going to get my supplies from the US but the postage costs of upwards of $20 just for a single set of transfers is lunacy and that is before the possibility of the Royal Mail slapping import tax, VAT, whatever it is called this week plus their fee on top when it gets here.  There is however K4 Decals in the US who do a range of transfers, useful lettering sheets being what I purchased from them a couple of months back and they only charge the letter rate postage of about $1.25 or something like that. RMweb Premium cnw6847 Posted March 13, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 13, 2021 I haven't bought any decals for 2-3 years but I had been getting them from TMR Distributing in Canada  https://www.tmrdistributing.com/presta/index.php  Terry is very helpful and soon gets in anything he hasn't got. Postage was reasonable last time but I suspect would be a bit more now. I hadn't been charged the Royal Mail fee or Vat, might have just been lucky.
F-UnitMad
I second the above recommendations and have used both TMR & K4 Decals - the latter just this past fortnight (delivery did take nearly 2 weeks, but that's not unusual at the moment). Never been done for VAT & Royal Mail charges for decals myself. As they are usually in a card envelope and low value items they get through the net, it seems. 1
RMweb Gold mabel Posted March 13, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 13, 2021 Thanks for all the replies chaps. Most helpful. I’m still bemused as to why British stockists (of Microscale military decals) can’t be ars*d to order specific railroad decal packs. Surely they could just add them to their next order? Tony
warbonnetuk
You can order direct from Microscale. There is a minimun order of $20 of actual decals but in HO thats only 3 sheets. Shipping is $15 so its worth trying to bulk your order out with some items for future projects. I've ordered regularly from Microscale inc this year and each time the order has arrived in about a week and with no additional VAT, Excise or Royal Mail handling charges. Ships in a padded envelope. Â If you want a UK supplier that I'd suggest contacting Mech Models although you'd have more of a wait. Â Dan 1 1
