cypherman
Hi all, I am looking for pictures of the Mablethorpe model railway in the small Lincolnshire seaside town of yes you have guessed it Mablethorpe. I spent a lot of time there as a child when I went their on holiday every summer till one year I went back and it had gone. For any one who knows Mablethorpe it was in what looked like an old bus station between Victoria Road and George Street. It existed in the late 60's to early 70's. I believe that it was closed down when the owner died and his family did not want to carry it on. It was a very large model railway and I think it was about 15ft by 50ft. I am not sure of the exact size as I was only about 10 at the time.
RMweb Premium Mike Bellamy Posted March 16, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 16, 2021 (edited) When I saw the title of this topic I thought I may be able to help - but I was thinking of the 7mm scale O Gauge layout built by Mike McDonald which was in part of the seafront amusement park. This was called Monk's Bay and has been featured in BRM - a number of the buildings were from Allan Downes who advised us in 2016 that Mike had passed away. I believe that the layout was put up for sale (eBay ?) and then dismantled - no idea where that is now. There is still a Facebook page with a number of photos here Click Link to Monk's Bay Facebook Page Also link to RMweb postings Click here for RMweb obituary Sorry that doesn't help you in your search - my first visits to Mablethorpe from Grantham were in the early 1960s and I don't remember visiting a model railway - but then I was only 8 or 9 at that time. .
