These "Enterprise" locos are well-respected, and in the hands of a knowledgeable user they perform very well.

Not usually "worth a mint of money", because they often need a bit of tinkering to fettle them up, and there are relatively few such knowledgeable users, but somebody will want to become its custodian.

Here's one for sale by a reputable dealer, to give an idea of price range

I've just purchased a tatty "Enterprise" 4-4-0 which is minus the burner/spirit tank, tender, and whistle. Also the boiler is semi-detached. So it's a complete stripdown for starters.

So might I ask if anyone on here has an Enterprise they can measure and do some pix of the burner/tank assembly? I think it unlikely that I'll find a burner as spares, or an original tender likewise. But I am inclined to look at putting some form of throttle control on it.

Any help/guidance/suggestions (polite) appreciated. Thanks.

I don’t, but if you find the Classic 0 Gauge Forum (make sure you get the UK one; there’s a similar-sounding US one), there are Enterprise users there, and there is an archive of really detailed stuff about setting-up valve timings and the like, which you will doubtless need soon.

There were a number of B-L "Enterprise" and "Super Enterprise" (4-6-0) to be seen and running  at the Bedford Vintage Trains meet (see HRCA website for details) at Houghton Conquest last evening. I think the live-steam runners there - Mike Swain (??) and friends - might be able to help you if you can get in touch with them. Look up "Chesham Steamers" on the HRCA website events listing - https://www.hrca.net/extra/events-public

There appears to be a meeting scheduled for next week - "Jun 20, Tue. Chesham Steamers, Christ Church,Waterside,Chesham,Bucks,HP5 1PY.(Please note this is the original venue and not the more recent Methodist Church) 3-8pm ."

Otherwise you might wish to contact the Bassett-Lowke Society who have a meeting advertised as follows

- Saturday June 24th - Bassett-Lowke Society Running Day, Digswell - The Cowper Arms, 31 Station Road, Digswell, Welwyn, Herts, AL6 0EA – 10:30am to 3:30pm
Please note The Cowper Arms is next to Welwyn North Station

Hope that helps.

Chris H

P.S. I'm not a HRCA nor B-L Soc member - and I don't have a B-L steamer, but I have been tempted!
