Captain Cuttle
Hi, Am i the only modeller on here interested in Nascar i wonder? I have been watching it since it arrived on the british tv and now we get really good coverage courtesy of Premier Sport. I initially watched all three series, the Trucks, Xfinity and Cup. Now i just prefer the Cup racing and Nascar are continuing to run the races with social distancing and very few spectators.
geoffers
Went to Rockingham Arena once as there was a concert by The Darkness - remember them? - and the lad wanted to see them. It was part of an event which featured NASCAR racing. Please do not be offended if I say I found it boring, both the music and the racing, but I did. Not a great fan of any motor sport to be honest - I prefer to be bored by watching cricket although the latter can be exciting when England do one of their batting collapses, something we are probably the number one in the world at. I have friends who are keen on motor sports but somehow it does not ding my bell. Edited April 16, 2021 by geoffers Spelling
Gareth Collier
I used to watch NASCAR a lot when it was on Sky but there are only so many different platforms I can justify subscribing to......
RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted April 17, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 17, 2021 I haven't watched any NASCAR in nearly a decade, since my first wife died, she having been Controller of TV, and able to dig up all manner of motor racing from outside Europe. But I found it very watchable, not least the differences among circuits - e.g. tri-ovals - which played to the talents of some drivers over others. And some car numbers seem to have stuck - Matt Kenseth 17, Kevin Harvick 29, Jimmy Johnson 48, I think. Occasionally there would be a race on a road circuit, and suddenly a sprinkling of sportscar drivers would be included - they knew how to turn right! And I suppose the spectacle of all these huge pieces of metal hurtling round a banked track inches apart took me back to 1965, at Reigate Model Car Racing Club, when someone would occasionally race a stock car, dicing with Lotus Cortinas just as they might have seen the Willment Galaxie doing at Brands Hatch. Captain Cuttle
Well Kevin Harvick is still racing he one of oldest current drivers in the Stewart Hass no.4 Ford got more wins than anybody last season but didnt win the championship. He is known as The Closer. All the races are on Youtube if you want a catch up. Jimmy Johnson in the 48 retired last year, they called him Ole' Mr Seven Times but he hasnt won for a number of years. His replacement is Alex Bowman a young fella who i follow who used to drive the 88 which was Dale Earnheart Jnr',s ride but he retired in 2017 with concussion. They all use the Hans device now which greatly helped with head safety. Alex is not having a great year though, its big boots he has to fill though.
Captain Cuttle
The Toyota Owners 400 NASCAR Cup Series race yesterday was at Richmond Raceway, a short oval track and the weather was dry for a change, a lot of races get rained off. Big surprise was that my driver Alex Bowman won in the Ally no.48, it was his first win of the year, first at Richmond and third career win. Second place finish was the 11 with Denny Hamlin and third the 22 with Joey Logano. The last time the 48 won was in 2017 in the hands of Jimmy Johnson. Yesterday Jimmy he started his first full schedule for the 2021 IndyCar season for Chip Ganassi Racing.
