Kubel82
Hi guys, Is anyone using Lenz LB101 with LDT RS-16 feedback detector. I am unable to connect the 2 output wires from LB101 to RS-16 and get any feedback detected at Lenz handset. One Occupancy output wire is connected to one of the RS-16 ports 1-16 and the other occupancy wire is connected to the Ref. This is not an RS-8 device. Thanks Keith

Thanks Keith Hi Keith Does the LB101 provide a voltage for the RS16 inputs or is it just acting as a switch? The RS16 needs an input voltage to detect anything, closing of a switch doesnt work on it's own See Here: page_1428.pdf Edited April 27, 2021 by melmerby
Kubel82
Thanks mate. That's what I needed to know. There is no voltage output from the occupancy detector; hence the nil response from the LDT RS-16. So RS-16 is going in the dustbin and I will fit 2 Lenz LR101 feedback detectors, which do work. Thanks again. Keith

RMweb Premium melmerby Posted April 28, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 28, 2021 In fact you don't really need Much to detect occupancy. Just add something like this to each RS-16 input: You still need to provide a voltage at the reference of the RS-
RMweb Premium melmerby Posted April 28, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 28, 2021 (edited) Further to this I've been staring at a sharp image of the LB101 (I don't actually have one) and can make out most of the components and the fact that the outputs come from opto-couplers and the outputs appear not to be connected to any other part of the circuit apart from surface mount dual protection diode (small 3 pin device next to output terminals) I can see no reason why you cannot use the LB101 with the RS-16, however you still need to connect a voltage to the REF and 0v to the LB101 ground as in the pdf I posted earlier, so that the LB101 outputs are actually switching something : page_1428.pdf Edited April 28, 2021 by melmerby
Kubel82
Well, you have lifted the fog about how these things work. I can now see that if I apply 12-16 v DC across the optocoupler and provide a current user on the track, the coupler will conduct, and switch the LDT-16. Thanks once again for your diligence in solving this for me mate. If I started again, I would probably buy RS-8, but had already purchased the Lenz LB101’s and wrongly thought that the RS-16 work work the same as a Lenz LR101 Feedback Decoder (which does provide 5v DC to the LB101). I had hassle from the beginning, where I couldn’t change the Dcc address of the RS-16 initially and it has taken nearly 2 months to get it replaced by Buhler Elektronics, and it came back with no explanation at all. Was it faulty, or was it finger trouble? I will never know. With hindsight, it would have been better to buy from a UK dealer, but I didn’t. But thanks again. Great camaraderie. :-) Keith
RMweb Premium melmerby Posted April 29, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 29, 2021 Just to be clear the output(s) of the LB101 need to be connected as item (1) in that options diagram from LDT. i.e. the LB101 output connected to the input of the RS-16. Although they quote a reference 12-24v DC I find they work perfectly with a voltage as low as 5v DC I have an Arduino project where the Arduino output (5v Logic) drives the RS-16 input.
