I am looking for a set of instructions for an Alexander Models class 14 loco and I am wondering if anyone could assist me please.

I have no idea if these kits were taken over or even still available. I see DJH sold a class 14 kit in the past but not currently on their website

Its certainly missing a crank, any idea if these are available elsewhere please

  • hayfield changed the title to Instructions for an Alexander Models class 14 loco

One of his Class 15 kits passed through my hands many moons ago as part of a job lot, I didn't need a Class 15 so passed it on but, as somebody who had built a few MTK kits before that, the quality of Mr Alexander's castings was outstanding!

The quality of the castings seem to be of high quality,

I bought this from a chap as it came in a job lot and it was something he was not interested it. The part build is a bit rough, thankfully its not been painted and some paint stripper will soften the epoxy glue which has been used. I prefer to solder whitemetal kits, so it will be a nice little project. Certainly one crank is missing, so are the brake shoes (if ever supplied). Just need a steer on what needs replacing and mostly what goes where on the chassis.

Bucoops has suggested a possible source for replacement cranks - the 'throw' of these would need to be exactly the same as the wheels to prevent binding. Luckily you have one to measure.........as well as the wheels of course!

Apologies if you consider this to be stating the bleedin' obvious :D!!

Thank you for the advice, Alan Gibson do the cranks (5002) for the class 14 as well as the wheels (4847D) whether they match the 16mm Romford's is another matter and worth as you say checking

If you can wait a few days, I could scan some for you as I have 3 in my pile. Just digging out for my shed atm so busy working but I'll should be able to dig the kits on on the weekend.

Yes please if you could, waiting a few days is no issue at all. I have a turnout complex on my work bench

Good point - and I have a feeling they are different throw.
