Built by General Motors Electro Motive Division between 1985 and 1995, these powerful diesel electric locomotives were designed to haul heavy freight services as a replacement for the class 56 locomotives. 15 of these locomotoives were produced between 1985 and 1995 with the first one being delivered into Southampton docks in 1986. These locomotives have been painted in various different liveries including DB Cargo, GB Railfreight, Foster Yeoman, Mendip Rail and Amey Roadstone Construction.
