Jeff Smith
Just planning a 0-16.5 model of the GVT station at Chirk. It will have compressed length to suit a 3' train, about 45%. The three main structures are the road bridge which can be 100% scale but the station building and carriage shed if modelled to scale would dominate the platform and the carriage siding. I'm wondering what others have done in these situations?
RMweb Gold BoD Posted August 9, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 9, 2021 I appreciate that you are talking about modelling a real location but you may get a wider response if you request that this post be moved to the modelling questions and help section. Jeff Smith
Perhaps a Moderator could move it for better coverage, please.
Il Grifone
Normally I'd selectively compress the structures in length, but looking at the pictures of Chirk on line there seems little scope for this.
Nearholmer
If I was forced to compress that building, I think I would loose the two smaller gables, and clip the wings a bit, and attempt to keep the character by carefully reproducing the architectural detailing. But, it is a very challenging one to compress. Are the doorways particularly big in reality? If they are, another possibility might be to do the whole thing, but in a subtly reduced scale. If the doorways are already modest, that won’t work.
