Can an members recommend someone who could be possibly interested in being  commissioned to undertake the building and painting of a Peco GWR Toad Brake van in BR 1950s condition please?

Thank you in advance

Are there any RMweb members interested in a commission to build a Peco 0 gauge GWR Toad brake van kit?. If so please PM me?

Since no one appears interested, perhaps you might have to build it yourself.

There was a recent article on building this exact model a short while ago, perhaps in a Railway Modeller within the last 18 months, or maybe the Parkside catalogue recently?

It looked to be a very straight forward kit.

If you think it’s beyond your ability, Blobrick, I’d be willing to bet it isn’t!  Kits are (or should be) designed to reduce final sales cost by passing the task of final assembly to the customer, not to be specifically challenging or hard to build.  If you managed an Airfix Spitfire when you were a kid, you should be ok with this, he says never having actually built one but Peco have a pretty good reputation…

Before you start, read the instructions several times and get a mental impression of how and in what order the thing goes together.  Instructions sometimes need to be ‘interpreted’, because the guy who designed it knew exactly how it goes together but is not necessarily skilled in explaining this in a written form.  Take your time, be methodical, and do not cut a part from the sprue until you are ready to fit it to the workpiece; this is a guaranteed way to lose it!  Try fit parts before glueing and file or carve them to fit together.  Paint areas that will be hard to get to after the kit is finished, like the interior of the cabin, and fit the glazing before the roof goes on.  Use Lego bricks to ensure right angles and corners.

If you run into trouble, plenty of advice is available here; go on, have a go, and think of the enjoyment of building it and the satisfaction of completing it!  I’d wish you good luck, but, honestly, you won’t need it!

It might be better trying to find a built one on eBay than commissioning a build.

A builder and painter will want to make it worth his while which would mean charging daft money. Say X amount of pounds for Y amount of hours and you are talking more money than what it is worth.

Also keep an eye on the Hattons pre owned section. You sometimes get them on there. Some reasonably good O Gauge at the moment.

Thanks to everyone who's replied, a kind RMweb member has come to my rescue and is currently building said kit. The problem was one of insufficient  time to complete the kit along with all the other items l m working on, so the help is very much appreciated.

Cheers
