RMweb Premium corneliuslundie Posted October 15, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 15, 2021 Some good news for a change. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-58925726 I have purposely put it here rather than under Preservation or a more specialist thread. Apologies if it is duplicated elsewhere. I did look. Jonathan

RMweb Premium Andy Kirkham Posted October 15, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 15, 2021 (edited) The second photo shows the manufacture of shells during the First World War. The predominance of women would otherwise be inexplcable. The man in the bowler hat is Robert Williams the Locomotive Superintendant. (I know because the photo appears in Little Giants by Chris Jones and Peter Dennis) Edited October 15, 2021 by Andy Kirkham
RMweb Premium corneliuslundie Posted October 15, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 15, 2021 (edited) I did wonder if the Festiniog itself wrote the headline to attract the press. But I think I remember seeing that it was often referred to that way in the Victorian era. Nearholmer
It certainly advertised itself as “the toy railway”, but I think that was in the 1930s when attempts were being made to boost tourism. 2
