I met Jethro a few times having done lights for his shows at a local venue. He would often be outside the stage door smoking (as was I before I quit) and I remember him saying to me at one gig “I don’t know why people pay to see this sh!t”

RIP Jethro

Having lived in Cornwall for knocking on 40 years this is sad news. The man was a legend. Remember the tv show from his club? Had some great new acts on there. Dave and Amos being a favourite of mine. (Are they still around ? )

Thanks Jethro.

Craig.

The first time I saw Jethro wad in very different

circumstances to what he became known for.

He sang a solo at a Young Farmers Carol Service, in

Truro Cathedral; must have been at least 50 yrs ago.

While his humour didn't do much for me, when I worked at a local theatre, he refused to come out on stage when he spotted there were some kids in the audience.

"My show is for adults" he said.

The parents argued that their kids had seen all his videos, and somehow this meant they could ignore the "Over 18s only" stuff on the posters. Eventually, they were persuaded to take the kids home and the show started. I respect him a lot for that.

I first saw him when he was  compering "gentlemen's evenings" for the local MTA. The last time I saw him he was having a couple of quiet pints the Fox and Hounds in Lydford.

RIP Jethro,  Geoff.

A sad day. The Duchy has lost one of its legends. My Gran, who came from a Crowan, about 5 miles from Camborne,  was a Big fan and gave me a VHS  of him on my 18th. I only saw him live once while I was at the School of mines, in the mid 90's but it was an experience I will never forget.

RIP Jethro

I can't speak for Jethro as I'm unfamiliar with much of his work beyond the meme of "What happened was..." but I was doubled-up with laughter hearing a Kevin Bloody Wilson recording whilst being driven from the NVR to the MNR. Great when it's fresh to you.

Anyway, KBW playing in King's Lynn and I was asked if I wanted to join the rest of the MNR guys to go see. I said I wouldn't pay cash money to see such puerile nonsense. So yeah, nice to hear the once, but questionable if the 'live' experience offers much more.

Don't get me wrong, leaving this mortal plane having uplifted the lives of others is worthy of tribute. And especially given Geoff's niche in regional identity through humour. RIP.

I had been Shanghied as a stoker on The Balmoral (Those responsible are sadly now dead) it was a Sunday morning and we were at anchor off Penarth when Kevin Bloody Wilson's hymn to the sin of Onan started blaring out over the tannoy

Good job we were out of earshot of the pier!
