M7 air reservoir - 4mm

The M7 is devoid the air reservoir that hangs under the frames at the front of the loco. Can anyone provide some details of the dimensions, I doubt if a spare is available from either SEF or Hornby, therefore a homemade replacement is essential.

Have you tried asking SEF? IIRC the range has changed ownership recently, but prior to that they were very good at supplying individual items from locos in their kit range and such habits often survive a change of ownership, at least initially. Bob Wills, the originator of the range, was quite hot on insisting that, wherever possible, the masters for his kits should produce accurate castings (although, because some kits were made to fit proprietary chassis, such accuracy wasn't always possible).

As mentioned in the OP, I doubt if spares are available from SEF (or Hornby) unfortunately since Squires took over SEF from Dave Ellis, the previously excellent customer service is merely a distant memory.

At present Squires are struggling to get parts done and out. Of an order for 18 parts placed in June so far 4 have been received with the rest to follow and that's after lots of chasing.

Still waiting for the T9 etched chassis, ordered in September from Squires/SEF. No responses to numerous emails.

Sadly this is my experience too. The only way to get an update has been to phone. Lets hope this year they get more on top of things.

Does it need one only the pull push fitted locos had them.

Any bit of plastic tube and plasticard will make one.

SR auto-fitted locos also had a Westinghouse pump on the offside of the smokebox, to maintain the air pressure in the control system.

Talking with the owner (about my order from from last April) he said replying to emails is a waste of time and asked how many emails I thought they got in a day. They have said it will be 18 months before they have worked through everything.

OK, I believe that the thread was about air reservoir cylinders for the M7 - I took another route and asked Paul at PDK for help. He replied with the necessary item within a week, which is pretty good service.

The M7 is a Jidenco and is much better than I feared, it  has been DCC’ed but it was necessary to update the bogie pick-ups. At the moment it is ‘30s SR green but destined to be plain black with early BR lettering.

Will post some pics in due course.
