RMweb Gold ChrisS Posted June 1, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 1, 2023 As my Leyland road runner project comes nearer to completion, my attention has turned to another small project. My lovely wife bought me this kit for Christmas, but I deliberately didn't want to start it till I was closer to finishing the road runner. The parts look really good. In preparation I've already purchased some Railmatch yellow paint and i have some Railtech transfer BR brading left over from the road runner. Unlike the road runner, I've only found a few example photos but hopefully enough to do it justice. Till next time.
37114
Another interesting Project Chris! I "un damaged" one of the James Bond "Spy who loved me" Sherpa's last year but it isn't perfect however that kit looks a good base?
fodenway
Aren't Promod kits 1/50 scale?

If I didn't get this kit from my wife, I'd have probably looked for a james bond donor and converted it too. 1 hour ago, fodenway said: Aren't Promod kits 1/50 scale? I'm assuming some of their range might be, but along with several other items, this is 1/43. https://promod-diecast.com/product/leyland-sherpa-van-hinged-door-version-prk067/

RMweb Gold ChrisS Posted June 4, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 4, 2023 The castings in this kit are so good they don't require much tidying up. After a bit of filing and washing, they were left out in the sun to dry. This could end up being a relatively quick build. All component parts were primed this evening. A minor bit of sanding might be required to the body before a final prime coat but otherwise it all looks good. The intention will be to finish it as an early 80s version with black plastic grille and bumpers, just before they got a face-lift. Back to work and the daily grind tomorrow.

I had always assumed, given the level of duplication and style of body and floor etc, these are the same castings as the equivalent r-t-r ones from various companies but merely sold in kit form. No idea whether that is the case or I'm completely wrong ! Most are 1:50 but there are obviously some exceptions.
RMweb Gold ChrisS Posted June 10, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 10, 2023 Some progress made today - it was relatively cool in my garage compared to outside. I've only just discovered the benefits of Tamiya sanding sponges, and used some 3000 grade to smooth the primer on the van body. A lot easier to get into the nooks and crannies, and smooth round curves. And so the application of yellow paint starts again- the first of many. All the other component parts have received a coat of Satin black. All going to plan at the moment - touch wood. Till next time.
RMweb Gold ChrisS Posted June 30, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 30, 2023 Work has got in the way, but nearly there with the yellow and im quite happy how it looks. It still needs varnishing and looking forward to finishing it when time allows. After painting i noted the body came with some un-intentional but prototypical dings. There's some minor damage to the front valance and a dent in the left rear door. The rear valance also looks like its already being nibbled by rust! I'm happy to leave as is. The wheels were painted with humbrol metal cote and have come out quite nice. Till next time.
RMweb Gold ChrisS Posted July 4, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 4, 2023 (edited) Getting there - Gloss coat applied and Railtec transfers added. Nearly had a nightmare with one of the side transfers when it folded over on itself but luckily I was able to sort it out. Compared to the adjacent Vanguard Ford Transit I'm thinking my efforts not too bad so far. Till next time.
