Looking really good!

Is that a stock Vallejo colour for the parts on 311's roof or a mixup job?

it’s Vallejo Air Dark Sea Gray 71.063

it’s not a perfect match but good enough for small parts. Add a hint of dark brown would be better as it’s slightly too blue

I actually went and looked again at what other colours I had. I just went over them withModel Air Sinai Gray 82 71.142 and that's a better match. A slight blend of the 2 likely get you near on perfect

Wonder if its had a quick paint while the NMT ones where done. Will ask about. It does look good with the grey to match to coaches.

@The Angry Scotsmanwill need to try and catch you at glasgow this year. Be good to put a face to the name and meet another fellow RTC modeller. 277 is well worth the effort, just need another power car to get painted to match now

I do need to tidy up my NMT ones. It looks like one or more have grey roofs now. Do you have any definitive info on those!!?

NMTs are dark grey and where done as part of the recent repaint. 277 has not had any grey applied too it. think what you have done with your model suits it and helps tie in with the coaches which is the whole point of the yellow

Very interesting. Clearly it must be the gloss reflecting the sky, and just shows how you can't trust colours from videos and pictures.

I am clearly using paint to simulate reflected sky!

153376 appears to have got ahead of 153311!

Decals in progress of being applied. I have the ends to do still, but looking good. I think I will make the ploughs body mount at some point too. I’ve also got to work out the wiring for the lights and decoder with regard to body removal once I have the glazing back in..

Also adding to the NVA fleet. I’ve got more detail into the doors and buffer beam/rub strips. These will take Keen Systems couplings and sprung buffers.

(it has been noted that I got my number upside down. Doh, that should have been the easy bit!)

Thinking about the wiring for the VIU units.... I think I am going to cut the fixed cab interior off of the main interior and mount both cabs and lights permanently in the body along with the decoder and speaker. That way all the additional wiring for that stays together in the body. I'll then use the 8-pin connector as Hornby intended but take the yellow or white off the PCB via the existing connections to feed the chassis lights and the other I'll disconnect from the 8-pin decoder plug and re-purpose it for the end lights....

What blue paint did you use for the viu? It looks stunning, would it be possible to get some printed or the stl file for the parts for it please?

Andy

Hi Andy

Thanks, I appreciate the comments! I used Vallejo Game Colour Electric Blue 72.023

Feel free to PM me if you are looking for parts.

Thanks

Andy

Back to the 153 VIU

I filled the marker lights with black tack - seems a much easier thing to do than fill and paint 🙂

I bought some dual colour SMD LEDs for the marker/rear. Printed a new light box and light guide for the new led and glued the led to the back of the light guide.

i will fit SMD LEDs into the box for the headlights too. Just need to work out if I need to print light guides for those.

i plan on putting the resistors in the light box too and then probably run the wires direct to the decoder

So, light guides all printed, LEDs superglued and resistors in place. The headlights are on a common resistor (they won’t be operated together) and the marker/rear similarly. 5 wires to go back to the decoder at each end…

This one is a bit earlier than I'd normally do.... but, Accurascale show that in formation with their MK2B RTCs in 1991 was ADB 975091 Mentor.... Just had to.... the RTC era Mentor. Just got to see if I can pick top those coaches now!

I was looking through the thread and posts from last year, your blog and now here, and I was extremely impressed with your 'late' MENTOR.  By late I mean with the newer windows and corridor connectors at both ends. Is the earlier RTC MENTOR above for N or OO scale?

I'd be very interested in an RTC era MENTOR in OO(and I'd get two if PROMETHEUS could be an easy change which I thing is just BT10 bogies - I must check the corridor end situation).

Are you doing just bodies for a RTR chassis or are you doing the full coach as last time?  I'll send you a PM if you're up for doing more for sales.

I did appreciate your post in your blog about the end costs, it's not as easy as it looks to make money. Also puts RTR cost into a bit of  perspective (though I think Heljan are out to lunch with the prices I have seen for the RTC BG at over £200 for one coach).

First test print of the early Mentor. Need to tweak some supports but I am happy with it.

I’m now running the later version with the rectangular spot lights that ran in RTC and also early Railtrack liveries
