bubbles2
How does Peco code 75 bullhead track compare to SMP code 75 flexible track, I’ve been using the SMP nickel silver type J for many years and wondered if it is compatible with the latest Peco code 75 bullhead, is the sleeper spacing similar and would the sleeper/rail height line up when connecting the 2 types, all info gratefully received. RMweb Premium PMP Posted November 8, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 8, 2023 SMP sleeper thickness is less, so rail height will be different. The Peco Bullhead and code 75 streamline are compatible for rail height. Don’t know re Peco bullhead spacing, (though it doesn’t look much different visually), or sleeper length.

There is indeed a height difference between the two – about 0.7mm if I remember correctly. So you'll have to shim up the SMP track if connecting to PECO. I've used both and prefer the appearance of SMP (assuming it hasn't changed in the last few years). The sleeper grain is less pronounced, and the thinner sleepers make for easier ballasting – particularly for a branch-line look, where you'll be using very fine ballast. That said, the PECO stuff is still a great product, is a bit more robust and is readily available from model shops. 1 1
Buhar
I recall reading somewhere, I think it was a comment from @Martin Wynne, that the lower head on Peco bulllhead was significantly more bulbous than scale. Alan 1
