Replica Railways motorised chassis for PCV

The real PCVs (Propelling Control Vehicles) were not powered. RES operations are not my field of expertise but IIRC 4-car rakes were formed PCV/modified GUV*/modified GUV*/PCV with driving cabs outermost, and this arrangement allowed the trains to be backed into mail hubs controlled from the PCV's driving cab, avoiding the locomotive having to change ends. But this ability was only used for this manoeuvre, not main line running. As far as I know!

*Sorry, don't know the TOPS code(s)!

Thanks! That’s great to know and may negate my need for one. I did think they were only for ‘remote’ control of the loco. I had thought it was odd that most of the PCVs I’d seen were immediately after a loco (with the control end facing the loco), but this makes a lot more sense if they topped and tailed a rake.
