Hornby R1230 GWR HST traction tyres

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have the GWR hst from the set above but it started slipping on the track, at the point I found a line traction tyre half way round my layout.

I can't for the lift of me figure out how to get the bogie off to refit it?

Can't find any instructions for it either.

Anyone got any ideas or done it before?

Assuming this is the Limby/Railroad OO gauge model, then at least one of mine is strange as it was supplied with spare traction tyres in the box but the included instructions make no mention of how to fit them.

What the instructions for the Railroad model do say is how to get the body off. First, remove the two screws from the underside of the chassis (between the bogies and the central underslung equipment boxes, one screw by each bogie). Next you need to unclip the loco body (there is a clip on the body moulding at the bottom of the corridor/gangway at the rear of the loco which needs to be pulled outwards (towards where the coaches would be) and the diagram suggests something else (also towards the rear) may need to be pulled downwards but I can't see anything on the bodyshell I am looking at). You should then be able to  lift the body off.

That will give access to the top of the bogies. Unfortunately I don't think the power bogie will be easy to remove; both bogies seem to have a split-clip where the two sides need to be squeezed together to release the bogie (similar to some Hornby coaches) but the power bogie also has wires running to the headlight and circuit boards which will keep the bogie loosely attached to the loco.

You should be able to unclip the bogie frames without taking the body off or the bogies out. There are two retaining clips to ease off either side. A small screwdriver helps. Get it off one side and it should unclip easily.

Done it many times.
